The SAU Smart Dryer is a cutting-edge, IoT-enabled climate-smart drying technology developed by the Department of Fishing and Post Harvest Technology at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University to produce premium-quality, value-added dried fish, fruits, and vegetables using clean and renewable solar energy. The innovation overcomes the major shortcomings of conventional open-air drying methods, such as poor sanitation, contamination by dust, insects, and animals, dependence on favorable weather conditions, prolonged drying time, inconsistent product quality, and substantial post-harvest losses. The system combines solar photovoltaic technology with an intelligent Internet of Things (IoT) platform that continuously monitors and automatically regulates key drying parameters, including temperature, relative humidity, and airflow, ensuring optimal drying conditions around the clock. The dryer is equipped with solar panels, battery storage, heating units, exhaust fans, dehumidifiers, and smart sensors, allowing uninterrupted operation during nighttime and cloudy weather. Its enclosed drying chamber protects products from external contamination while preserving their nutritional quality, natural color, texture, flavor, and shelf life. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels, lowering carbon emissions, and minimizing operational costs, the SAU Smart Dryer supports environmentally sustainable agriculture, improves product quality, increases processors' income, enhances market competitiveness, and strengthens Bangladesh's export potential for high-value dried products.
