Overview
Farm Management Wing commenced its activities following the establishment of the subcontinent’s oldest agricultural education institution "The Bengal Agricultural Institute" (which was later renamed Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in 2001) in 1938. Initially, the farm's activities were limited to training, demonstration and general cultivation. However, since the university's establishment, it has been operated as a research farm.
Currently, On approximately 14 acres of land under the Central Farm, students from various departments of the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine conduct over 300 research experiments annually across three cropping seasons (Kharif-I, Kharif-II and Rabi) for their MS and PhD programs.
At present, the Farm Management Wing employs 10 officers, 4 staff members and 135 regular (master roll) laborers. In addition to supporting research activities and general farming, these laborers assist various offices, sections, halls and departments of the university as per directives from the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University authority.
Moreover, the Farm Management Wing oversees the operations of the Animal Production Farm and Mini Zoo, Dairy Farm, Poultry Farm, Nursery and Fisheries Farm. It is also responsible for maintaining all flower gardens within the university campus, tree plantation, mosquito control and overall cleanliness activities.
At Present, the section is equipped with 3 tractors, 3 power tillers for field cultivation and 2 trolleys for transporting various materials. In addition, a number of agricultural machineries are available to support ongoing research activities.
