Dr. Mohammad Shah Jahan is an Associate Professor of Horticulture at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Bangladesh. His postdoctoral tenure at Guangxi University, China, under the esteemed China Postdoctoral Fellowship program, marks a pivotal chapter in his academic and research journey. During this time, Dr. Jahan engaged in intensive research focused on elucidating the mechanisms by which melatonin enhances plant tolerance to various abiotic stresses. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Horticulture from Nanjing Agricultural University, China. His Ph.D. research primarily focused on exploring novel physiological and molecular mechanisms for abiotic stress management of horticultural crops, utilizing different hormones. Before his doctoral studies, he earned both his Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Sciences and his Master of Science in Horticulture from SAU. In his teaching, Dr. Jahan largely focuses on broad-spectrum areas relevant to Bangladesh's context. These include sustainable crop production (vegetables and spices) in controlled environments, nursery management, and the functions of hormones in stressful environments. So far, he has published more than seventy five (75) research and review articles in highly reputed and SCI-indexed journals with high impact factors including, Plant Physiology, Autophagy, Horticulture Research, Experimental and Environmental Botany, Journal of Environmental Management, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, Scientia Horticulturae, Frontier in Plant Science, Applied Soil Ecology, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, BMC Plant Biology, International Journal of Molecular Science, Cells, Antioxidants, Journal of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, Plants, Pathogens, Genes, HORTSCIENCE, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and attended many prestigious seminars and conferences in the national as well as international arenas. According to the SCOPUS database, his articles have been cited approximately 3460 times with an h-index of 31 (as of December 2025) and Dr. Jahan has been listed in the top 2% of the world's scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier in 2025 and 2024. Beyond his academic and research roles, Dr. Jahan actively contributes to the scientific community as an associate editor for Frontiers in Plant Science and Plant Molecular Biology Reporter. Dr. Mohammad is the Editorial Board member of Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution, and Discover Biotechnology. He is also serving as a guest associate editor(s) for several special issues in esteemed journals. He has been actively contributing as a reviewer for several prestigious scientific journals (>30) and conferences.
