Short Biography of Professor Dr. K. B. M. Saiful Islam
Prof. Dr. K. B. M.Saiful Islam has completed his Ph.D. and MS in Bio-systems Sustainability (major in Microbiology) from Hokkaido University, Japan; MS in Medicine from Bangladesh Agricultural University and DVM from Chittagong University, Bangladesh. He also received Post Graduation Diplomas from KVL, Denmark and ENVA, France. He has more than 17 years of research and teaching experience and published 23 research papers in different peer reviewed high impact journals. He has attended many scientific meetings and presented/published 45 proceedings papers in which 30 are international. Presently he is serving as Editorial Board Member of 6 international journals and reviewer of many.
As the one & only Bangladeshi veterinary academician cum researcher, he received the honor of “Visiting Scholar” at the Second Oldest Veterinary School of the World; École Nationale Vétérinaire d'Alfort (ENVA) in France in 2017. In 2019, he again received the honor of “Visiting Research Scholar” at one of the Imperial Universities in Japan, i.e. Hokkaido University, at Laboratory of Microbial Physiology, Division of Applied Biosciences, Graduate School of Agriculture. Similarly, he is the one and only veterinary academician in Bangladesh who was selected for consecutive three times as the “Key Opinion Leader” to represent the small animal education and practices of the country internationally. Prof. Dr. KBM Saiful received sixteen International awards, recognition, scholarships and fellowships for his academic, research and clinical excellence of which ICASVM Innovative Research Award-2020 (USA), Visiting Research Scholar-2019 (Hokkaido University, Japan), Visiting Scholar-2017 (ENVA, France), SAADC Young Scientist Award-2015 (Thailand), Young Researcher Award-2014 (China), Asian Young LAB Scientist Award-2011 (Japan), are most noteworthy. His excellence was equally recognized in Bangladesh by different national media and organizations and he received 6 Six Prestigious awards in the country including Most Valuable Person of the Year for Livestock Development (Education)-2017, Mother Teresa Award-2017 and Genius Award-2016. Furthermore, his academic and research excellence have been awarded by his appointment in 2020 as a "Program Fellow" of the Global Education Program for AgriScience Frontiers; An International Priority Graduate Program by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Government of Japan.
At present, he is holding the positions of Chairman & Professor, Department of Medicine & Public Health; Hospital-in-Charge, Veterinary Teaching Hospital; Center-in-Charge, Zoonotic Diseases Research & Information Center (ZDRIC) at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Beside his professional involvement, he is equally involved in social and welfare activities. He is an active member of 29 national and international societies; in some he holds the Executive Posts.
