Dr. Fatema Sarker
Dr. Fatema Sarker currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Development and Poverty Studies, Faculty of Agribusiness Management, at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. She completed her doctoral degree in Agricultural Economics, Bioeconomy, and Rural Development at the University of Hohenheim, Germany, funded by the prestigious German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) award. Her Ph.D. research focused on Gender Dynamics and Human Nutrition in Livestock Production Systems. Her study, centered on Bangladesh, explored the linkages between female livestock ownership, women’s empowerment, and household nutrition, aiming to provide valuable insights for development interventions.
Her primary areas of focus include agriculture, gender and nutrition linkages, climate change adaptation, sustainable development goals (SDGs), food systems, livelihoods, social protection strategies, agricultural digitalization and mechanization (especially in the livestock sector), agricultural policy and development, governance and public policy, and socio-ecological systems.
Dr. Sarker specializes in qualitative research methodologies, including in-depth ethnographic fieldwork, to examine power dynamics within diverse socio-cultural settings. Her research investigates how agricultural policies, development interventions, and related investments impact various stakeholders, identifying the best-fit institutional arrangements to achieve equitable outcomes. She is particularly passionate about the effects of climate change on agricultural production systems.
Additionally, Dr. Sarker co-founded the Saleha Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to supporting distressed women and children.
