Mir Mohammad Ali is a teaching and research staff in the Department of Aquaculture under the Faculty of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Science at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (Honours) and Masters of Science in Aquaculture from Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU), securing the First position in the First Class in both the cases in order of merit.

Mir got many prizes and medals for his outstanding academic and research accomplishments, including the Chancellor (President) Gold Medal in 2020, Prime Minister Gold Medal in 2017, University Grants Commission (UGC) Merit Scholarship in 2014, National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship in 2014Dean’s Merit Certificate (Maximum four times awarded) and Merit Scholarship from 2010-2013, Math Olympiad Champion in 2007 and Alhaj Yunus Educational Award in 2006.

Additionally, Mir was serving as a Researcher in WorldFish- An International Research and Development Organization based in Bangladesh and South Asia office for sustainable fisheries resources management, promoting conservation of Hilsa in Bangladesh & the countries within the Bay of Bengal region, small-scale fisheries (SSF) management, coastal fishers coping strategies & livelihoods improvement, poverty alleviation and sustainable aquaculture development for five years. He was also a fisheries consultant in the International Water Association (IWA) for India-Bangladesh transboundary River and Hilsa management. Subsequently, Mir also worked in several research projects funded by international and national agencies like USAID, European Union, WorldFish, World Bank, British Council, European Commission, Chemonics International, UGC, BARC, BFRI and DoF. His research focuses on the toxicological and environmental measurements to assess contaminant exposure and impacts in aquatic organisms and human health. Furthermore, He is also pursuing further research on coastal and marine aquaculture development, resilience to climate change, ecosystem-based management and building a green economy that focuses solutions for biodiversity, ecosystem and people. Mir has published more than 50 research papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals and books. He is an editor and reviewer of some peer-reviewed international journals.

Research Interest: Ecotoxicology and public health, Coastal and marine ecology & aquaculture, Ecosystem-based management, Climate change, Green environment and sustainability, Biodiversity conservation and Sustainable water resources management.
